How do I book my test?
You can book any of the tests online within 5 minutes; all you’ll need is a copy of your ID and a valid debit or credit card to make payment.
If you prefer to speak to a member of staff give us a call or request a call back and we’ll get in touch within 24 hours.
What is the SELT acronym for?
SELT is the abbreviation for Secure English Language Tests.
SELT are used for visa applications as evidence to demonstrate the candidate’s ability in using the English language. These tests are accepted by the UK Visas and Immigration
The Trinity Examination Board is an approved provider of SELTs in the UK.
What is the GESE?
GESE is the abbreviation for Graded Examinations in Spoken English. This exam involves speaking and listening.
ISE is the abbreviation for Integrated Skills in English. This exam is requires the candidate to demonstrate his or her skills in speaking, listening, reading and writing.
Both of these SELT exams are provided by Trinity so it is important you book the right exam for the visa you require. If you’re unsure give us a call, we’re always ready to help you choose the right test for you visa application.
Which test do I need to pass?
It all depends on the type of visa you require:
A1 SELT – GESE Grade 2
Further Leave to Remain:
Family life as a partner of a settled person (Spouse/Partner)
Family life as a parent (Parent of a dependant)
This is the current A1 English language requirement.
A2 SELT – GESE Grade 3
Further Leave to Remain (visa extension):
Family life as a partner of a settled person (Spouse/Partner)
Family life as a parent (Parent of a dependant)
An A2 English language SELT is required for family route Leave to Remain applications after 2.5 years in the UK.
B1 SELT – GESE Grade 5
Indefinite Leave to Remain — ILR
(Settlement/Permanent Residency)
British Citizenship (Naturalisation)
How long does the A1 SELT test (GESE Grade 2) take?
The A1 test consists of 6 minutes of speaking and listening.
How long does the A2 SELT test (GESE Grade 3) take?
The A2 test consists of 7 minutes of speaking and listening.
How long does the B1 SELT test (GESE Grade 5) take?
The B1 test consists of 10 minutes of speaking and listening.
Will any training material be provided for the SELT test?
Once you’ve booked the test and we’ve sent you confirmation we’ll send you some training material to get you all prepped and ready for the test.
I have a valid exam result from before 6 April 2015, can I still use it for my visa application?
After 5 November 2015, UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) will accept only exams taken at Secure English Language Test(SELT) Centres, such as Trinity's.

How do I pay for the A1, A2 & B1 tests?
The only method of payment we accept is credit or debit card made online when you book the test or by phone with one of our dedicated member of staff.

How soon can I book my test?
The earliest date you can book your test is 3 days from today. Please ensure you do not book sooner than 3 days as we will not be able to accommodate.
Is there any support for my disability?
Please inform us if you have a disability when you book the test and we will do our utmost best to ensure you will be able to take the test comfortably. We will need 28 days notice for this.
What ID do I need?
The ID you choose to use must be valid on the date of the exam and must be brought to the Trinity test centre on the day of your exam.
Please also ensure you enter the ID details correctly and accurately when booking your test as these must match on the day of your exam.
What types of ID can i use to book my SELT test?
The following are the only ID types can be used to book an exam:

What if I enter the wrong details when booking my test?
If you’ve provided the wrong details when you booked your test, please give us a call within 24 hours and we’ll get this changed. However, please be advised if the details you provided to not accurately match the details on your ID you will not be able to take the test and you will not be refunded.
What do I do if my personal details change after the test has been booked?
If your personal details change after the test has been booked, give us a call and we’ll try our best to accommodate.
What if I cannot attend the exam?
Please let us know if you cannot attend the test and we’ll see what we can do.
What if I am late or delayed for the exam?
Please get in touch if you believe you will be late or delayed for the test. It will be up to the registrar at the exam centre to decide if you can take the exam or not.
What belongings am I allowed to take in to the SELT test?
Once you reach the exam centre the staff will provide lockers to put your belongings in during the duration of your test. You will not be permitted to take mobiles phones, bags and other personal items with you into the test room.
How soon can I re-take the exam if I fail?
You can re-take the SELT test 7 days after the original exam date for GESE. However, you cannot book for a re-take until you know the result of the previous exam.
What is secure delivery and how does it work?
The Secure Delivery option states that the certification will be delivered by 1pm the day after posting and will require someone to sign for this on delivery but can still take up to 7 days. And the secure delivery is really for the guarantee of arrival. We do not offer a fast track service.
How long will it take to receive my certificate?
You will receive an exam report form with your provisional result (Pass or Fail) . Candidates can usually expect to receive their Trinity SELT certificate within 7 days.
